When I think of a traditional beach home, I can’t help but think of navy blue and seafoam green colors which served as the inspiration for this coastal charmer. It embodies all the “must have’s” of a traditional beach cottage with it’s white trim and navy blue siding, nautical oval window, painted ceilings, natural hardwood floors and pebbled outdoor fireplace. It’s the perfect addition to our quaint beach town of Coronado.

This home makes me want to kick off my flip flops and relax for awhile. I love it’s distressed woods, mix of metals, driftwood washed floors and bright Caribbean beachy colors. Some of my fave’s of this house include a a wrap around tree bench, bright greenish/blue curved custom dutch door with shutters to match and Bermuda style “spandrels” (those louvre looking shutters under upstairs deck ceiling). This fresh take on our latest beach house makes me feel like I’m on vacation.

We just moved into our latest home build last Thanksgiving and of course still have a few “honey do” projects we’d like to finish as well as some unpacking that I’m embarrassed to have not finished by now. However, this home has easily won over our hearts. It’s centrally located to our schools, our “Mayberry-like” downtown and our white sandy beaches. I lovingly refer to this coastal home as our “sunshine home”. I wanted our spaces to be infused with plenty of sunlight and as such it quickly has become my “happy place”. Some of my favorites include our strong connection to the outside, our living room style kitchen with open shelves, our outdoor room with surfboard bar, seashell fireplace and remote controlled screens which has easily become the favorite room for tv watching and hanging out. I must admit there’s something special about watching tv at night where the moonlight is our mood lighting. Another favorite is our children’s bed nooks as well as their teen hangout attic space.

Can You Hear The Music?
Our next project was about a block or two from a beautiful park in Coronado where during the summers, they have concerts in the park. We would love to sit in our outdoor room or our front porch and listen to the bands play while our kids sold snow cones on the corner of our street. We enjoyed sitting on the front porch in the late evenings with the fire blazing from our fire pit and watching the stars above. It was so peaceful and I always felt such gratitude in those moments. Some of my favorites about this home included our gourmet white kitchen, a dining nook with a large farm house table and the ceiling beam treatment above, the outdoor room and our basement where we had the coolest beach driftwood wallpaper.

Ok I must fully disclose that we have truly loved all the homes we have remodeled and built. Each have a special place in our heart. However, I lovingly refer to our first home in Coronado as “the one that got away”. If I had a “do over” button, I probably would have not sold it. But as we all know it’s never good to dwell in the past and we have been very fortunate with our other builds. Some of my favorites about this home included the kitchen ladder, the secret passageway between the kid’s bedrooms, our upstairs guest house (“casita”) and the dining room that opened onto our front porch. I also loved the indoor outdoor connection from kitchen/family room to the vaulted outdoor room. A concept we like to incorporate in all our builds.
